A few days ago, a client came into our spa. While speaking with his massage therapist prior to starting the session, he mentioned something very simple and at the same time profound: “I’m not sick… but I’m not okay either.”
He said he felt exhausted, irritable, low on energy. Even sleep wasn’t helping restore him anymore.
He was likely experiencing something that many people still don’t really know about or talk about enough: burnout.

Burnout is not just “being tired.” It’s when the body and mind start disconnecting from the pace of life you’re living. In cities like Miami, where everything but the traffic moves fast, modern stress becomes part of the routine without us even noticing.
The World Health Organization defines burnout as a state of exhaustion caused by unmanaged chronic stress, most often in the workplace. Science has observed that this type of stress can affect sleep, focus, and daily energy. Luckily, practices like mindfulness, nature walks, and massage can help reduce muscle tension and promote relaxation of the nervous system.

This is one of the reasons we love what we do so much at Healing Hands: a massage with us is not just a moment of rest, but also a powerful way to help the body release built-up tension, quiet the mind, and reconnect with our overall well-being.
What’s interesting is that many people don’t realize they’re experiencing burnout. They keep working, training, and handling everything… but inside they feel like a “phone at 1%” that still insists it can make it through another day.
The client even laughed sadly and said: “I thought I just needed a vacation, but I think I need something deeper than that.”
And that’s the point. Burnout doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it hides behind productivity, discipline, or simply the belief that “adulting is hard.”
