Summer after a global pandemic is bound to be eventful. As the world opens back up and we’re able to enjoy the things we used to (pre-pandemic), it’s important to keep in mind a couple of key wellness tips that are important year-round, but even more so in the summer season.
- Hydration: When you think of summer, you probably think of sunny, hot days spent outside by a beach or a lake. However, with the increased heat and exposure to sunlight comes an increased risk of heat exhaustion/stroke. You’ll want to make sure you get the recommended amount of water per day, which is actually more than 8 cups for most people, and is increased when you sweat (like in the summertime)!
- Indoor movement: Again, summer means HOT weather (especially here in South Florida). This probably isn’t the ideal season for intense outdoor exercise. Instead, opt for some indoor movement! A great option can be something like the online zoom classes we offer for our corporate wellness clients. 😉
- Optimize sleep: Obviously sleep is important year-round. We thought it was important to include it in this list specifically because of the particular summer we’re in. Don’t let the excitement of returning to old activities post-pandemic cause you to continuously sacrifice sleep, as this can lead to poor decision-making, increased hunger, and impaired problem solving. Perhaps try mindfulness to help you unwind and prepare for sleep (yep, we offer that too!).
- Sunscreen: It’s hot, UV rays are stronger in the summer, skin cancer is a thing. Please be safe, people!
Have fun this summer, but don’t forget to prioritize your health and wellness (as you should year-round!).
