Chances are stress is running high for…just about everyone in the world right now. It is a tense, difficult time. For many reasons. And one thing’s for sure: too much stress is bad for you (a little isn’t). However, 2020 isn’t exactly the year of A LITTLE stress…is it?


So, here are some tips that take into account both your physical and mental health:


  1. Set the tone for your day: are you chugging coffee as you rush headlong into your morning meetings, or are you starting your day with some relaxing “me time”?  Starting your day mindfully is important, and will help keep you centered into the afternoon.
  2. Pay attention to how you are sitting: your neck and shoulders should be neutral; your eyes should be staring straight ahead at your computer screen.  Even if your head is tilted down just a few degrees, neck pain will probably result by the end of the day.  Elbows, hips, knees, and ankles should all be at 90 degrees.
  3. Take a movement break: it’s important to get up and move throughout your day.  We’re not all lucky enough to have a treadmill desk so whether it’s a quick 5-minute yoga stretch, running up and down the stairs, or walking the dog, remember to move – it jumpstarts your brain!
  4. Separate work from personal: creating the separation between Work and Home is harder than ever now that most of us are still working AT home!  If you have a home office (or a designated spot where you work throughout the day), try not to spend time there after working hours.  You could also turn off email alerts on your phone after, say, 7pm.
  5. You are what you eat – and when you eat: if you’re trying to lose a little extra ‘Rona weight, in addition to eating more fruits and veggies, consider Intermittent Fasting.  By limiting the amount of hours of food intake, you give your body a chance to burn more fat (not just glycogen).
