Happy Women’s History Month! Since Healing Hands is a woman-owned/founded company, we wanted to take a moment this week to acknowledge the amazing work that us women can do. Health and wellness is a booming industry with many powerful players, but we wanted to take a moment to recognize three particularly notable industry leaders.

Our company began with massage, so the massage industry has a special place in our hearts when it comes to health and wellness. The industry would not be the same without the groundbreaking studies about the importance of nurturing/therapeutic touch by Tiffany Field at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami. Tiffany has been instrumental in demonstrating the variety of benefits that come from touch (specifically in the form of massage therapy) including pain reduction, renewed energy, and lowered stress.

However, while we love massage, we have expanded our services to other corporate wellness offerings as well, such as group mindfulness, yoga, Pilates, and more. All these services are meant to boost employee engagement, morale, and decrease burnout, a cause that Arianna Huffington is deeply familiar with. After creating a wildly successful career (I’m sure you’ve heard of the Huffington Post) in digital media, Arianna stepped down from her CEO position to focus on her new startup: Thrive Global, a company focused on science-based solutions to end stress and burnout.

Finally, one more particularly impressive player: Deborah Szekely. 97-year-old Deborah was crowned as the “Godmother of Wellness” by the Huffington Post due to her lifelong efforts in promoting a whole-person approach to wellness. Deborah founded two spas: Rancho La Puerta, and Golden Door. At her spas, she teaches a holistic approach to health and aims to change the way we eat and live. At 97, the only pills she takes are vitamins. Arianna Huffington and other major names in health and wellness, such as Oprah Winfrey, are frequent guests at Deborah’s spas.

Now that’s some serious girl power.
